Telehealth
We are so excited to introduce you to our world-class Telehealth offering. In a time of extreme social distancing and isolation, technology is allowing us to connect with others in ways that we never have before. Telehealth technology allows us to practice Chiropractics in new and innovative ways and is revolutionizing all aspects of the medical field. Telehealth technology allows patients to receive top quality medical from anywhere in the world, at any time and we are proud to be revolutionizing the use of this technology into Chiropractic care in South Africa.
How does Telehealth work?
Telehealth consultations are done via secure end-to-end encrypted video technology. During the consultation, your Chiropractor will take a full history from you in order to identify what is causing your pain. Once he has identified what the problem is, he will guide you through a range of simple exercises using everyday objects as props to help ease your discomfort. He will then give you an at-home exercise prescription. The exercise prescription will include specialized exercises to do at home that will help to build strength and mobility and prevent further issues in the future.
But I thought Chiropractors were only trained to work hands-on?
This is a common misconception. Whilst Chiropractors generally work with passive therapies such as manipulations, dry needling and massage, they are also expertly trained to work in more active modalities such as exercise therapy and self-directed myofascial release.
Chiropractors are specifically trained to take verbal histories from patients and to be able to diagnose the cause of your concern without even having to touch you. From this verbal history, your Chiropractor will also be able to tell when/ if you need to be referred on for X-rays or to relevant specialists.
Contrary to popular belief, Chiropractors can actually diagnose and treat joint and muscle concerns through simply speaking to a patient and guiding them with dose-specific exercises to help release tight muscles and help to strengthen and mobilize the body to prevent injuries in future. This type of Chiropractic care offers a more long-term solution to those with recurring pain/ injuries as it aims to diagnose faulty movement patterns that may be causing the pain and then corrects these patterns through targeted exercises so that the issue doesn’t recur. Whilst traditional Chiropractic care provides great relief for those in pain, it might not be a lasting solution if you don’t also aim to diagnoses the route cause of the issue and incorporate more active exercise therapy into your treatment regime.
What are the benefits of Telehealth consults?
Telehealth consults can be done in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Telehealth consults save time. No sitting in traffic, looking for parking or sitting in a waiting room just to get to see your Chiropractor. Just hop onto your video chat and then get straight back to work.
Telehealth consults allow your Chiropractor to take a more holistic view of your health and movement patterns. Since Telehealth is more focused on movement and identifying the movement patterns that could be causing injuries for you, it allows your Chiropractor to really understand why you may be prone to certain injuries and how to help you to prevent these injuries in future.
Telehealth consults allow your Chiropractor to get to know your home and/or work environment and help you set it up correctly in order to prevent aches and pains.
Telehealth consults empower you with knowledge and skills to manage your own pain. Instead of having to go to the Chiro for an adjustment every time your neck is sore, you can now learn exercises to help relieve the pain yourself. These are skills that can last a lifetime and can save you thousands of rands on Chiro and Physio visits in the future.
Telehealth consults offer a long-term solution to managing your aches and pains. Yes, getting an adjustment or needles provides amazing instant relief but this is usually short-term. If you have repeating patterns of pain or recurring injuries, Telehealth consults can help you identify the reasons why these are happening and prevent them in future.
Telehealth consults don’t hurt! For some of us, going to the Chiro is a little bit of a torture session and the appointment can leave us feeling tender for days after. Telehealth consults provide a gentler solution, using your own body and movement to help manage pain. This means that you can do your Chiro exercises daily without any negative side-effects.
What are the costs involved?
All Telehealth consults are R400 for a 45-60 minute session.
Telehealth consults are covered in part by medical aid.
